All about Healthy Eating for a Balanced Lifestyle

Protein, grains, vegetables, fruits and dairy...dominated our Unit lessons this week, as Preschool got to grips with the five food groups.  Trying to sort different food into the correct category was tough but once these food groups came to life through our visit to the supermarket, it became much more doable! The trip to the supermarket was great and a good way to end our long Tuesday with the Preschoolers actively involved in trying to locate the five food groups (extremely efficient and successful). Our cooking lesson on Wednesday made excellent use of our supermarket trip and the students put together their balanced snack, composed of one food from each of the five groups.

Our yummy pita breads!

In maths we continued looking at routines with Show&Tell putting the students in the right mindset. They even felt confident enough to sit and present in front of the class! What a group of risk takers!

Show&Tell: Bedtime reading is the best!

Students have slowly started connecting that routines are important for a balanced lifestyle, which is great! More of that in the coming weeks as we look at our teeth and the importance of brushing our teeth after meals as well as sport and exercise.

Students continued focussing on counting during our numeracy lessons, making sense of what it means when a number becomes bigger or smaller. A lot of numbers filled the room as they were hopping and skipping up down the number line.

We had a lovely week and I wish you all a restful weekend.

Reminders for next week:

  • Just a quick reminder that Murmeli (the marmot) and a journal will start coming home with your child for the weekend. This will be done in rotations so that each student has the chance to bring her home and write in the journal. The students know what they need to do and are excited but I do ask for your help with the writing. They are also allowed to draw and it would be lovely if you could include some pictures to document their weekend with Murmeli. Thank you for your support.

  • Wednesday is Sports Day. Please remember to send in a change of clothes, put sunscreen and insect repellent on, in the morning.
  • As we have don't have normal classes on Wednesday, we will be cooking on Tuesday instead. So please send in a small container on Tuesday.

  • NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY

  • Show&Tell on Tuesday: something that they did on the long weekend.
